Linux New Media AG announced that Linux New Media USA LLC will launch today in Lawrence,
Kansas. Linux New Media is the world’s largest publisher of magazines for the Linux operating
system, with eleven magazines in six different languages. Through its magazines, websites, and
community events, Linux New Media provides a forum for Information Technology (IT) business and
the Open Source community.
Linux New Media USA will take over publication of Linux Pro Magazine, the North American edition of
the magazine known overseas as Linux Magazine. The Lawrence office will continue to provide
editorial services for the international Linux Magazine as well as Linux Pro. According to CEO Brian
Osborn, "We have built a great team in Lawrence. With the
phenomenal growth of our English editions, we felt it was now time to launch our North American
presence."
Osborn says it was easy to find experienced staff in the Lawrence area who
specialize in IT publishing. Editor–in-chief Joe Casad has worked as a high-tech
author and editor for more than 14 years. Managing Editor Rikki Kite is also a veteran editor with a specialty in Linux.
Casad and Kite will operate from the company's North American office in
downtown Lawrence. Linux New Media USA has also filled other positions at the Lawrence office.
“Lawrence is the ideal location for our North American headquarters,” Osborn added. “When we
started to talk about opening a US office, places like New York, Boston, and San Francisco were the
first cities on the list, but there are a lot of great reasons to locate in Lawrence, and those factors
outweighed anything the better-known cities had to offer.”
Linux Pro Magazine is available by subscription or at newsstand outlets such as Borders and Barnes
& Noble.
